Accessibility statement
We build this site for everyone — including disabled people who depend on accessible technology every day. Here's what we've done, what we're working on, and how to tell us when something isn't working.
Our commitment
One Less Thing is committed to meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines define how to make web content accessible to people with disabilities — including visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and speech disabilities.
Accessibility is not a feature we bolt on at the end. It's a baseline requirement for every page we publish. A financial literacy resource that isn't accessible to disabled people has failed its core audience.
What we've done
- Structured all pages with proper heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) so screen readers can navigate by heading.
- Added a skip-to-main-content link at the top of every page so keyboard users can bypass navigation.
- Written descriptive alt text for all meaningful images. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes.
- Maintained color contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG 2.2 AA (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Ensured all interactive elements are keyboard-navigable and have visible focus indicators.
- Used semantic HTML elements (
nav, main, article, section) rather than generic divs wherever structure matters. - Set the page language (
lang="en") on every page so screen readers use the correct pronunciation. - Tested layouts on a range of viewport sizes so content is readable without horizontal scrolling at 320px width.
- Avoided content that flashes more than 3 times per second.
Known limitations
We are a small team, and we may not have caught everything. Issues we are aware of:
- Newsletter embed: The Beehiiv signup form on the Newsletter page is a third-party embed. We do not control its accessibility. If the embed does not work for you, please email us directly and we will add you to the list manually.
If you encounter a barrier we haven't listed here, please tell us — we want to fix it.
Contact us
If you experience an accessibility barrier on this site, we want to know. Please reach out at hayden@onelessthing.us with a description of the issue and the page where you found it. We will respond within 2 business days.
If we are unable to resolve your issue, we can help you find the information you need in an alternative format.
Technical standards
This site conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Content is built using HTML5 and Astro. We test with keyboard-only navigation and use automated tools to check for common issues. We do not use any overlays or third-party accessibility plugins — these are not a substitute for building accessibly from the start.
